My travel literary book won an award. The book is Travels in an American Imagination:The Spiritual Geography of Our Time.
It is about my sense that we live in both the most wondrous and the most horrific time ever to be alive. The book looks at 25 places in my travels as jumping off points for observations on the spiritual geography of our time.
The award came from a group called BAIPA, or the Bay Area Independent Publishers Association. They have an annual book awards event. My book won in the Best Travel Commentary Book category.
The book is available on Amazon and through bookstores, or direct from me.
The book later came out as an ebook. You can see it among the 18 books on my Amazon Author Page.
Then it came out as an audiobook. You can listen to individual sections on my website. It is sold in all the audiobook retail outlets.
Finally, it came out as an ebook translated into Chinese. You can actually see the Chinese version for sale on my American Amazon Author Page. Amazon.cn is the biggest seller of my ebooks in China.
This is an example of the progressive evolution of book publishing.
Because I controlled the publishing rights on this book, many good things happened.
It is a classic study of an author taking charge of publishing, with beneficial results. It is not likely that a traditional publisher would be been adroit enough or sufficiently focused to effect these results.
